Giddings Stone Mansion
1869

South Market at Stone Street

J.D. Giddings built this house across town from his first home, the Giddings Wilkin House, following the yellow fever epidemic in the 1860's. He thought the higher elevation would protect his family from illness. This house is ranked by experts as one of the ten best examples of nineteenth century residential architecture in Texas. It is listed in the National Register of Historical Places.
